Modern Slavery Policy

Happy2Host Education is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in everything we do. Modern slavery, which covers slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, child labour and human trafficking, is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. What these abuses have in common is the deprivation of a person’s liberty so that someone else can exploit them for personal or commercial gain. We will never engage in or condone any of it, and we condemn it in others.

We take a zero-tolerance approach. We will not knowingly do business of any kind with any person or organisation that engages in modern slavery. We are committed to being transparent about our own business and our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chain, in line with the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

If we discover that anyone associated with our business is engaged in, supporting or condoning these activities, or is failing to prevent them where it is within their control, we will end the relationship. We will also consider whether we are under any reporting or other legal duty as a result.

Who we are and who this applies to

Happy2Host Education delivers professional development and training to schools, colleges, universities and businesses. Our work is carried out by our team alongside a network of freelance trainers, associates and contractors, some of whom are based outside the United Kingdom.

This policy applies to everyone who works for us or on our behalf in any capacity. That includes our freelance trainers, associates and contractors, as well as any consultants, suppliers and business partners we work with. It is not part of any contract we have with you, and we may update it from time to time.

How we prevent modern slavery in our work

Preventing, spotting and reporting modern slavery is a responsibility shared by everyone who works with us.

We are a service business. We deliver training and consultancy, and our work is carried out by skilled professionals, most of whom we engage directly. Our overall exposure to modern slavery is low. Even so, we make sensible checks. We make sure that everyone we engage has the right to work, is engaged on clear written terms, and is paid fully and fairly for what they do. We pay everyone we work with fairly and on time.

We stay alert to the areas where the risk is comparatively higher for a business like ours. These include freelancers engaged in overseas or lower-cost labour markets, and the venue, catering, travel and logistics suppliers we use when we run in-person training and events.

Raising a concern

If you work for or with us and you believe or suspect that modern slavery is happening anywhere in our business or supply chain, tell us as soon as you can. Concerns should be raised with Lawrence Tijjani, who is responsible for this policy.

Please raise concerns at the earliest possible stage, even if you are not certain. If you are unsure whether something amounts to modern slavery, raise it anyway and we will look into it.

We will take any concern seriously, investigate it properly and decide what action needs to be taken. No one will suffer any detrimental treatment for raising a genuine concern in good faith, even if it later turns out to be mistaken.

What we expect from our freelancers and suppliers

We expect everyone we work with to share the same commitment set out in this policy.

As a condition of working with us, freelancers and suppliers may be asked to confirm that they comply with all the legal obligations that apply to them, including those relating to modern slavery, and that they do not engage in slavery, forced labour, servitude, child labour or human trafficking in any part of their business or business relationships.

If we discover that anyone we work with is operating in breach of this policy, we will end the relationship and take any further steps that are appropriate.
