National Prison Radio.

Re-imagining Prison Radio

Our brief was to completely rethink and rebuild the Prison Radio website from the ground up, presenting their content in a more engaging and impactful way. Working closely with the PRA team, we set out not only to refresh their digital presence, but also to explore how the brand could better reflect the positive change they bring about.

We developed a bold new visual identity for Prison Radio that challenges the usual negative imagery associated with prisons. Instead of muted, corporate colours, we introduced a bright, energetic palette paired with striking photography. The result is a vibrant interface that communicates optimism, progress and the power of second chances.

Content Strategy & Technical Build

To maximise the impact of the new design, we also looked carefully at how content was structured and presented.

The previous website was text-heavy and dense, which made key messages harder to find and important stories harder to engage with. We helped PRA streamline, reorganise and prioritise their content, so every page has a clear purpose and supports user journeys for different audiences – from stakeholders and donors to families and people with lived experience of prison.

Under the hood, the site is powered by WordPress, giving PRA a flexible, scalable platform they can manage in-house. We configured an intuitive content management experience that allows their team to update pages, publish new campaigns and launch content quickly, without technical bottlenecks or developer intervention.

Unified Digital Platform

Previously, several key tools and features sat on third-party or partner websites due to legacy technical constraints. This created a fragmented user journey and diluted the impact of the PRA brand.

We brought these experiences together into one coherent digital platform, transforming the website into a central hub for all things Prison Radio. Users no longer need to jump between external sites – they can access everything directly in a consistent, branded environment.

Key features now includes:

  • A secure voice recording tool enabling families and friends to leave messages for loved ones in prison
  • The ability to embed external services such as media players and donation forms, supporting campaigns and fundraising
  • A robust system for managing rich media – including video, podcasts and other productions – so content can be showcased professionally and at scale

This unified approach not only improves the user experience, it also strengthens PRA’s digital identity and makes the site a more powerful platform for storytelling and engagement.
