Moving to Remote Teaching During a Pandemic

The challenge

Like all Schools in the country, Gunnersbury Catholic School had to move to remote teaching rapidly, when the government announced schools needed to close during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time staff were not very familiar with Google Workspace For Education and other Google technology, so had no real strategy to launch our remote learning provision. They wanted the new remote provision to be as close as possible to the curricular offer students would have received in the classroom.

The solution

H2H Edu delivered a range of workshops to the staff body, demonstrating how to use Google Workspace For Education for remote learning. This included setting up Google Meets, pedagogy for remote teaching and assessment tools. Teachers, support staff and the leadership team were provided with feedback and guidance on how they could effectively engage and monitor pupil progress using the tools. Throughout the course of the year, further workshops were provided to ensure staff were continuously supported and challenged develop their practice.

The results

Teachers left the workshops feeling empowered they could use the technology effectively to support our students and pleased we’d taken the time to invest in them. In our evaluations staff agreed with the statement “This training has strengthened my confidence in using Google technology.” with an average score of 5.2/6.

Thank you so much Happy2Host Edu for running the in-person and remote sessions for our school. We are grateful we were able to support our staff effectively, which meant we could get on with teaching our students. The follow-up webinars were a fantastic way of enthusing staff and supporting them with any difficulties they faced. The sessions were highly accessible to all of our staff.
